About this place
When a craving for a nostalgic bowl of miso ramen strikes, Dosanko’s Kasai branch, tucked into the Kasai Metro shopping arcade, is one to remember. Its signature ramen pairs a rich soup based on Beni Ichi-ten, a red miso made by Iwata Jozo in Hokkaido, with springy curly noodles. The robust miso flavour comes with crisp bean sprouts and corn, and you can add butter to find the balance you like. There’s a reassuring familiarity to the bowl, too, from a chain that has been a favourite for years.
Fried rice, cooked until fragrant, and gyoza are popular choices alongside the noodles, especially as part of a set. The fried rice has the simple, homestyle character of machi-chuka, or neighbourhood Chinese cooking, and makes a satisfying companion to the miso soup. Other rice dishes include chūka-don and tenshin-don, while small plates such as stewed offal and gatsu pon—offal with ponzu—make the restaurant as suited to a full meal as to a casual drink and a few bites.
Set beneath the railway tracks in the shopping arcade, the restaurant is easy to drop into whatever the weather. Inside, counter and table seating are laid out with room to settle in. It’s an unpretentious choice for lunch, a late-evening meal or a bowl after a night out.
